A Message from Mr Laws, Headteacher

As the Headteacher of Valentines High School, I am delighted to welcome you to our website.

At the school the traditional values of discipline, respect and good behaviour are combined with leading edge practice in teaching and learning. We strive for every member of the school community to be the very best they can be. Our aim is to help our students develop into happy, educated young people with the desire and drive to succeed. We work hard to prepare our students to be good citizens who are prepared for life beyond school in modern Britain. I look forward to meeting you at upcoming school events.

As a high performing Teaching School we strive to offer the very best facilities for our students. These include a sixth form block, state of the art physical education facilities including an astro-turf pitch and tennis courts, a gym and sports hall, a drama studio, a music room and a set of new science labs in our main building.

As a Teaching School the government has recognised our high performing status so that we can offer professional training to all our staff. This helps to further raise academic standards. Valentines supports other schools and teacher training at all levels in the area. Valentines is also a Leading Edge School. We are truly at the ‘cutting edge’ of new educational developments and leave no stone unturned in seeking ways to further enhance the educational experience of each and every one of our students.

Our school motto is ‘In harmony, achieving excellence’ and everything we do is planned to enable us to achieve this vision. Our behaviour code focuses on respect for oneself and for others. We emphasise the importance of Spiritual, Moral, Social and Cultural education in an environment where all faiths and cultures are respected.

The school was last inspected in 2006 and the inspection placed us in the very highest category – “Outstanding” in every section of the report.  Outstanding attitudes to learning, behaviour, quality of teaching and results were all noted, as was the outstanding harmony achieved in our diverse school community.

The school is part of regional and national networks, such as a SSAT, Leading Edge and the Education Development Trust Schools Partnership programme . As such we are truly at the ‘cutting edge’ of new educational developments.

The school places a real emphasis on the quality of student experience.  Our curriculum and extra curricular opportunities develop students character so they can play a full role in the life at and outside of school.

Whatever your reason for accessing this website, I hope that you will find it stimulating and informative and that it will inspire you to find out more about the school of which I am so proud.
